In 1732, over 22,000 Protestants were exiled
from the Archbishopric of Salzburg in a cruel and notorious act
of religious persecution. The Expulsion was a monumental event
which sent shock waves around the world.
EXULANTEN
The following pages tell the tale of the 'Exulanten',
the hearty, devout Salzburg exiles forced to leave their homeland
and sometimes even sacrifice their children for their faith.
It describes their long and harrowing journeys into the distant realms
of East Prussia, Frankonia, Holland, America and elsewhere.
Included in the saga is the story of their spiritual figurehead,
a banished salt miner named Joseph Schaitberger whose words and deeds
brought comfort and inspiration to the weary exiles.
