the Salzburgers forced to leave their mountain homeland
and sometimes even sacrifice their children for their faith.
It describes their long and harrowing journeys into distant realms.
Included in the saga is the story of their spiritual figurehead,
a banished salt miner named Joseph Schaitberger whose words and
deeds brought comfort and inspiration to the weary exiles.
In 1732, over 22,000 Protestants were exiled
from the Archbishopric of Salzburg in a cruel and notorious act
of religious persecution. The Expulsion was a monumental event
which sent shock waves around the world.
